Bryson DeChambeau surged into the outright lead at Pinehurst No. 2 during the US Open on Saturday, showcasing a stellar performance despite an apparent physical setback. The LIV Golf star made a solid par on the ninth hole, but soon after, he summoned a physiotherapist to address a hip issue. The 30-year-old Major winner was observed receiving treatment in a secluded area of the course before proceeding to the back nine in North Carolina.
While the extent of DeChambeau’s hip injury remains unclear, his subsequent play did not indicate any significant hindrance. He unleashed a massive 350-yard drive straight down the fairway on the 10th hole, which led to a birdie, propelling him into the lead. On the 11th, he followed up with an even more impressive 360-yard drive, securing another birdie and advancing his score to seven-under-par, placing him two strokes ahead of Rory McIlroy.

Before receiving treatment, DeChambeau had requested that cameras be kept away, although a helicopter overhead captured footage of the American golfer being attended to as he lay on the ground in the woods.

This is not the first time DeChambeau has faced injury woes. Early in 2022, he missed several tournaments due to injuries to his left wrist and hip. He eventually underwent surgery in April of that year, requiring a recovery period of about three months before returning to the course.
