Charlie Woods, after assisting his father Tiger Woods in preparing for the 124th U.S. Open, has qualified for the 76th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship. This prestigious event will take place at Oakland Hills Country Club in Detroit, Michigan, in late July.
At 15 years old, Woods secured his spot by carding a 1-under 71 at Eagle Trace Golf Club in Coral Springs, Florida. Competing against 85 other players for one of four qualifying spots, he stood out by winning medalist honors with the day’s only under-par score.
Woods demonstrated remarkable composure, making three birdies in the last six holes, a significant feat especially after dropping three shots on the 11th and 12th holes. This qualification offers him a chance to follow in his father’s footsteps; Tiger Woods won the U.S. Junior Amateur title three consecutive times from 1991 to 1993, with victories at Bay Hill in Orlando, Wollaston Golf Club in Massachusetts, and Waverley Country Club in Oregon. Tiger’s illustrious career includes winning six straight USGA Championships, a record unlikely to be broken.
Recently, Charlie has showcased his talent in several tournaments. He played a key role in his high school team’s victory at the Florida High School Golf Championship last November. In December, he and his father tied for fifth place at the PNC Championship. Although he fell short in the U.S. Open qualifiers, his performance in the U.S. Junior Amateur qualifiers marks a significant achievement and highlights his potential in the sport.
