Scottie Scheffler returned to the winner’s circle with a sixth PGA Tour victory in just 10 starts, triumphing over Tom Kim in a thrilling finish at the Travelers Championship.
Heading into the final round at TPC River Highlands, Scheffler was one shot behind the leader. The world number one delivered an impressive performance, recording five birdies in a bogey-free round of 65 to finish at 22 under par. He was tied with overnight leader Tom Kim, who also played superbly.
Kim, who holed a critical 10-foot birdie putt on the final hole to force a playoff, faced unexpected drama when play was briefly interrupted. Several protesters ran onto the 18th green, spraying powder before being apprehended by police. After the green was cleared, the stage was set for the playoff.
In the playoff, Kim’s shot from the sand failed to reach the green, while Scheffler secured a winning par, making him the first player since Arnold Palmer in 1962 to win six PGA Tour events before July in a single season.
Scheffler’s victory at the Travelers Championship adds to his wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, The Players Championship, The Masters, RBC Heritage, and the Memorial Tournament this season. This latest triumph further solidifies his position as the world number one and extends his lead in the FedExCup standings.
