More details have emerged regarding the dog bite incident involving LPGA Tour star Nelly Korda. The world number one golfer was bitten by an unknown dog outside a coffee shop in Seattle, according to fellow LPGA pro Alison Lee.
Lee shared that Korda reached out to her for advice after the incident, given that Lee had experienced a similar situation years ago. Lee was bitten by her boyfriend’s rescue dog, Bear, and required hospitalization for three days due to a serious infection. She noted that her whole arm turned red and she was diagnosed with lymphangitis.
“She asked me a lot about my symptoms when I got my dog bite,” Lee, 29, told reporters. “My dog bite got seriously infected, so I was actually hospitalized for three days. It’s an unfortunate and definitely scary situation. She got bitten by a dog she didn’t know, just at a random coffee shop. I’m hoping for a speedy recovery for her.”
The incident forced Korda to withdraw from the Aramco Team Series event in London, scheduled for June 28. In a statement on Instagram, Korda expressed her regret, saying, “I regret to announce that I must withdraw from next week’s Ladies European Tour tournament in London. On Saturday in Seattle, I was bitten by a dog and need time to receive treatment and recover fully.”
Korda’s withdrawal came after missing the cut at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in Washington, marking her third consecutive missed cut. Despite her recent struggles, she has an impressive track record, including a victory at last year’s Aramco Team Series London event by four strokes over England’s Charley Hull. Hull, incidentally, also withdrew from the current tournament after a fall earlier in the week, citing medical advice to cease playing.
Korda has not yet disclosed her plans for returning to action. The LPGA Tour is currently on a break following this week’s Dow Championship in Midland, Michigan, with the next major event being the Amundi Evian Championship in France, scheduled for July 11-14. Korda is also slated to represent the U.S. in the Olympics from August 7-10 at Le Golf National in Paris, where she is the defending gold medalist.
