LIV Golf, despite doubts surrounding its future following the PGA Tour’s deal with the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF), appears to be thriving. The breakaway league recently announced the opening of a new office in London, signaling its ongoing expansion and commitment to establishing a global presence.
LIV Golf, which launched at Centurion Golf Club in St Albans in June 2022, has grown significantly since its inception. The formation of the league initially caused a stir in the professional golf world, leading the PGA Tour to suspend members who joined the Saudi-backed venture. However, LIV Golf has continued to assert its place alongside the PGA Tour at the pinnacle of professional golf.
The landscape shifted dramatically when PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan announced a surprising framework agreement with PIF. The deal left LIV Golf’s future uncertain, particularly since LIV CEO Greg Norman was seemingly excluded from the negotiations. Despite this uncertainty, LIV Golf has shown no signs of slowing down. The league recently opened a new office in London, revealed by LIV’s Creative Director Will Newell on Instagram. “New London office opens this week. Fit out by Echospace London,” Newell wrote, highlighting LIV’s growing footprint in the UK, New York, and Florida.
LIV Golf’s expansion is part of its broader strategy to take the circuit worldwide. The league currently hosts 14 events across eight countries, a vision championed by its marquee player, Phil Mickelson. In May, Mickelson expressed optimism about LIV Golf’s future, stating, “I’m very bullish and excited about what that means for LIV Golf. The quality of the players will continue to get better each year. The ability and the sites that we move to throughout the world will continue to excite players and excite fans.”
Mickelson also noted that LIV Golf plans to bring professional golf to more countries outside the United States, with a focus on regions eager for top-tier golf events. This global expansion is exemplified by LIV’s recent opening of a London office and the upcoming UK-based tournament at JCB Country Club on July 26, following two successful years at Centurion Golf Club.
In summary, despite initial skepticism and challenges, LIV Golf is firmly establishing itself in the world of professional golf, with continued growth and a clear vision for the future.
