Rory McIlroy and his wife Erica Stoll were spotted enjoying dinner with his Ryder Cup teammates and their partners ahead of his return to competition at the Scottish Open this week. The Northern Irish golfer is set to defend his title at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick after a three-week hiatus. This appearance marks a notable moment as it comes just a month after McIlroy and Stoll announced the cancellation of their planned divorce.
Joining them at the dinner were several of McIlroy’s 2023 Ryder Cup teammates, including Team Europe captain Luke Donald, Shane Lowry, Tommy Fleetwood, and Nicolai Hojgaard. Also present was Tyrrell Hatton, a LIV Golf competitor, who had been part of Europe’s victorious team last October. However, Jon Rahm, another key player from the Ryder Cup team, was notably absent. The group included the players’ partners, with Donald’s wife, Dianne, sharing a group photo on Instagram.
This public appearance by McIlroy and Stoll is one of their first since addressing their relationship issues. In May, it was announced that McIlroy had filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, and a prenuptial agreement was expected to come into effect. The couple also shares joint custody of their three-year-old daughter, Poppy.
However, in a surprising turn of events, McIlroy revealed just weeks later, prior to the US Open at Pinehurst No. 2, that they had decided to cancel the divorce and were committed to keeping their family together. McIlroy expressed his relief and optimism for the future, stating that they had resolved their differences and were looking forward to a fresh start.
Despite narrowly missing out on a major title at the US Open to Bryson DeChambeau, McIlroy is now set to return to the golf circuit at the Scottish Open. Following this event, he will also compete in The Open at Royal Troon, aiming to reclaim major championship glory.
