Green Bay Packers’ rookie tight end, Luke Musgrave, returned to practice on December 21 after suffering a lacerated kidney in Week 11 against the Los Angeles Chargers. The team has opened a 21-day window to decide if he’s fit to be activated off injured reserve. Though Musgrave didn’t partake in team drills, Coach Matt LaFleur is optimistic about his progress, stating, “He was running and catching some balls with the trainers. He’s making progress.”
LaFleur expressed being “cautiously optimistic” about Musgrave returning to the field this season. The earliest possible activation from the 53-man roster could be in Week 17 against the Minnesota Vikings.
Before the injury, Musgrave, a second-round pick in the 2023 draft, amassed 33 catches for 341 yards and one touchdown in 10 games.
Despite his absence from practice, Musgrave stayed involved, actively participating in team meetings and film study during his four-week stint on injured reserve. Packers TE Coach John Dunn praised Musgrave’s dedication, stating, “He’s a great kid.”
The Packers, currently at 6-8, are one game behind the Vikings (7-7) in the NFC wild card race as they enter Week 16. The potential return of Musgrave could significantly bolster Green Bay’s playoff chances, providing support for emerging quarterback Jordan Love.
