Golf enthusiasts are abuzz as Erica Stoll is spotted accompanying Rory McIlroy at the Scottish Open, while CBS reporter Amanda Balionis heads to The Renaissance Club. Balionis confirmed via Instagram that she will cover the final two rounds of the tournament for CBS Sports, where McIlroy is competing for a historic victory.
This development follows Erica Stoll’s appearance on the fairways with McIlroy, marking the first time she has been seen supporting him on the course since their reconciliation. McIlroy, 35, had filed for divorce from Stoll, 36, on May 14, just before the US PGA at Valhalla. Rumors of a potential relationship between McIlroy and Balionis, 39, who is also undergoing a divorce, surfaced in the Daily Mail shortly after.
However, McIlroy confirmed on June 11 that the divorce was called off and that he and Erica had resolved their differences. He expressed his commitment to their family, which includes their daughter Poppy, and dismissed the rumors about his personal life.
Despite the off-course distractions, McIlroy narrowly missed winning the US Open at Pinehurst No.2, finishing one shot behind Bryson DeChambeau after missing crucial putts. Following a brief break, McIlroy is back in action at the Scottish Open, aiming to become the first player to defend the title successfully. He is currently three shots behind the leader, Sweden’s Ludvig Aberg, who is at 12-under par.
Fans are speculating about a potentially awkward scenario should McIlroy win the tournament, envisioning Erica and Balionis both on the 18th green. One fan joked about the prospect of Erica hugging McIlroy while Balionis seeks an interview, while another commented on the drama surrounding the situation.
Balionis announced her arrival in North Berwick for the Scottish Open via Instagram, adding to the anticipation. McIlroy and Stoll were recently seen dining with members of the 2023 European Ryder Cup team, where McIlroy learned of Keegan Bradley’s appointment as the 2025 US Ryder Cup captain.
Looking ahead, McIlroy will aim to end a decade-long major title drought at the 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon in Scotland next week.
