Sebastian Soderberg has withdrawn from The 2024 Open Championship. As of Wednesday, July 17, the Swedish golfer has officially removed his name from the field due to injuries affecting his back and ribs. His withdrawal, coming so close to the start of the tournament, means he will not be replaced, leaving the field one player short.
Soderberg was initially scheduled to play the first two rounds with Matteo Manassero and Shubhankar Sharma. They will now compete without him on Thursday morning. No other players have withdrawn from The Open Championship so far.
Soderberg earned his spot at The Open Championship by finishing in the top 30 of the final Race to Dubai Rankings in 2023. The 33-year-old has one career victory on the DP World Tour, achieved at the 2019 Omega European Masters, where he triumphed over Rory McIlroy and three others.
This marks the second time in recent months that Soderberg has had to withdraw from a tournament due to injury. He previously pulled out of last month’s KLM Open, a DP World Tour event, due to health issues.
