Carlos Alcaraz Overtakes Iga Swiatek as Top Prize Money Earner for 2024

Carlos Alcaraz has eclipsed Iga Swiatek to become the top prize money earner in the first half of the 2024 tennis season, bolstered by his significant earnings from winning Wimbledon. Alcaraz defeated Novak Djokovic for the second consecutive year to claim the Gentlemen’s Singles title at the All England Club. This highly anticipated match saw the Spaniard outclass Djokovic in all aspects, winning his first Grand Slam final in straight sets. Alcaraz lost only ten games and overcame a brief challenge after missing three championship points, maintaining his unbeaten record in major finals (4-0).

With this victory, Alcaraz has emerged as the highest prize money earner across both ATP and WTA tours this season. This total excludes his off-court earnings, which he also leads in the past year.

Alcaraz’s Wimbledon Earnings

In 2024, Wimbledon organizers set a record with a £50,000,000 prize money package. Alcaraz earned £2,700,000 (approximately $3,492,072) for his triumph, a nearly 15% increase from the previous year when he also defeated Djokovic in the final.

Before July, Alcaraz’s prize money for the season was $4,552,477, placing him third on the ATP list. After Wimbledon, his total on-court earnings surged to an estimated $8,044,540. He surpassed World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev, who did not advance past the quarterfinals.

Alcaraz also overtook WTA World No. 1 Iga Swiatek as the top earner across both tours. Swiatek, who exited Wimbledon in the third round, earned £143,000 ($184,950) from the tournament. Her total prize money for the year stands at $6,826,749, significantly less than Alcaraz’s earnings.

Comparing 2024 to Previous Seasons

Alcaraz’s 2024 prize money of $8,044,540 is the highest of any player this season. He is on track to surpass his earnings from the past two years. In 2022, Alcaraz earned $10,102,330 by winning the Miami and Madrid Masters and the US Open. He topped the prize money charts ahead of Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. In 2023, Alcaraz earned $10,753,431 in prize money and $4,443,073 in bonuses, totaling $15,196,504, and finished second behind Djokovic.

This year, the ATP will offer additional incentives for participation and performance in Masters and ATP 500 categories, positioning Alcaraz to finish as the highest earner for the second time in his career and potentially surpassing the $10 million mark in prize money for a third consecutive season.
