Tiger Woods Commits to Playing Three Events After Disappointing Open Championship Finish

Posted on July 20, 2024

Tiger Woods will be stepping away from competitive golf after missing the cut at the 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon this week. Woods, who posted rounds of 79-77 on Thursday and Friday, finished at +14 overall, well outside the cutline. After his second round, Woods informed reporters that they should not expect to see him play again until The Hero World Challenge in December.

In addition to The Hero World Challenge, the 15-time major champion also committed to two other events: the 2024 PNC Championship and the 2025 Open Championship at Royal Portrush. When asked if he would participate in next year’s Open at Royal Portrush, Woods confirmed, “Oh, yeah. Definitely.”

Given Woods’ limited schedule in recent years due to health issues, it wasn’t certain whether fans would see him compete again this year after the final major of the 2024 season. However, following his comments on Friday, the golf world can now anticipate seeing him twice in December: at The Hero World Challenge from December 5-8 and the PNC Championship from December 20-22.

Woods also announced on Friday that he would be flying to Detroit to join his son, Charlie, at this week’s U.S. Junior Amateur at Oakland Hills.
