Xander Schauffele is officially the 2024 Champion Golfer of the Year, winning the 152nd Open Championship on Sunday with a masterful final-round 65.
Schauffele, who began the year still searching for his first major title, now boasts two major championships, having also secured victory in May’s PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club.
In any other year, winning two majors—and finishing eighth and T7 in the two others—would likely earn Schauffele the PGA Player of the Year honors. However, world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler has also made a compelling case in 2024 with six victories, including his second Masters title.
Fans are divided over which golfer deserves to be named PGA Player of the Year.
Schauffele has won just twice in 2024, but both victories were in majors—a feat last accomplished by Brooks Koepka in 2018.
Scheffler, on the other hand, has tallied six victories this year and recently became the first player to win six times before July since 1962.
