Rory McIlroy opted for a family holiday in Portugal with his wife, Erica Stoll, following his disappointment at The Open Championship last week. The couple, spotted wearing matching watches during their trip, had faced marital difficulties earlier this year, with McIlroy filing for divorce. This news broke just days before the PGA Championship, leading many to believe their marriage was over.
However, McIlroy and Stoll reversed their decision to separate, choosing instead to move forward as a family. McIlroy addressed the speculation surrounding his personal life, stating, “There have been rumours about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate. Responding to each rumour is a fool’s game. Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realised that our best future was as a family together. Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.”
The couple was seen together at the Scottish Open earlier this month before McIlroy participated in The Open Championship, where he missed the cut after a challenging start. Following this, McIlroy and Stoll, along with their young daughter Poppy, headed to the Algarve for a much-needed holiday.
During their stay, the couple was seen enjoying the sun and visiting the beach. They were also seen in a 1990 Jeep Wagoner, both sporting expensive Patek Philippe watches. McIlroy wore a World Time Chronograph worth approximately £105,000, while Stoll’s Nautilus Watch was valued at around £87,000. Both were also seen wearing their wedding rings, signifying their renewed commitment to their marriage.
McIlroy, who mentioned he hadn’t enjoyed a holiday in four or five years, took this opportunity to relax with his family. However, his focus will soon shift back to golf as he prepares to represent Ireland alongside Shane Lowry at the Olympic Games in Paris next week.
