Bryson DeChambeau recently shared that missing the cut at The Open Championship taught him more than his performances at the season’s first three majors. The Crushers GC captain, who previously won the US Open and finished second at the PGA Championship, is now preparing for the LIV Golf United Kingdom event at JCB Golf and Country Club in Rocester, England.
“Playing American-style golf, even at Augusta (where he finished T6 this year), has become familiar to me. I know how to navigate those courses, though there’s always room for improvement in small areas,” DeChambeau remarked. “However, The Open Championship has always posed a different challenge. I’ve performed well in sunny, dry conditions, but I struggle when it gets wet, windy, and nasty.”
At Royal Troon, DeChambeau shot 76 and 75, ending at 9-over par. His best result at The Open was a joint eighth-place finish in 2022. “Last week, despite not playing my best, I felt like I made a breakthrough in controlling the golf ball in challenging conditions,” he said. “It was a significant moment for me.”
With the grand slam season concluded, DeChambeau shifts his focus back to the LIV circuit. His best individual finish this year was a tie for third in Nashville last month. Currently ranked ninth in the individual standings, DeChambeau’s Crushers GC team leads the team competition significantly over Legion XIII. He plays alongside England’s Paul Casey, India’s Anirban Lahiri, and John Catlin, who is filling in for the injured Charles Howell III.
DeChambeau also commented on two notable topics: Tiger Woods’ future in majors and playing golf with Donald Trump. On Woods, he said, “Tiger is the most influential figure in golf right now. He deserves to play in the majors. He’s done more than enough for the sport and continues to contribute by competing and striving to win. He’s a competitor at heart.”
Regarding the viral video of him playing golf with former US president Trump, DeChambeau said, “It’s an honor to play with anyone of significant influence, regardless of political affiliation. Whether it’s former president Obama or anyone else, I’m more than willing to play with them.”
