Tommy Fleetwood agreed deadline to stop working with wife who has 23-year age gap

Tommy Fleetwood and his wife, Clare, who also serves as his manager, discussed their unique working relationship and its challenges. The Olympic golf star married Clare, who is 23 years his senior, in 2017. Initially hesitant due to their age difference, Clare eventually reciprocated Tommy’s romantic interest.

The couple faced doubts about whether they could maintain both their professional and personal relationships. Clare considered stepping down as Tommy’s manager, but after a six-month trial period, they decided their working relationship could continue. Speaking on the Performance People podcast in May 2023, Clare recalled her initial uncertainty but realized she could manage both roles effectively.

Balancing work and personal life has required conscious effort. Clare admits she often talks about work, but she tries to switch off when necessary. They’ve established boundaries, including setting up an office at home where work discussions can take place. Tommy prefers relaxing with books, podcasts, and meditation, while Clare tends to work during her free time.

Tommy, 33, emphasized their mutual agreement to reassess their working relationship if it ever became problematic. He’s a stepfather to Clare’s two children, Oscar, 17, and Mo, 16, and they share a six-year-old son named Frankie. Tommy aims to make his family proud as he competes at Le Golf National in the ongoing Olympic tournament, a venue where he has fond memories, including winning the French Open in 2017.

Reflecting on his previous Olympic experience in Tokyo, where he finished joint-16th, Tommy hopes his familiarity with Le Golf National will give him an advantage. He cherishes the venue, especially after his pivotal role in Europe’s 2018 Ryder Cup victory.
