Kevin Durant Becomes Most Awarded Basketball Player in Olympic History as Team USA Triumphs Over France
In a thrilling showdown at the Paris Games, Team USA’s men’s basketball team secured a decisive 98-87 victory over Team France, marking their fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal. This win solidifies the United States’ dominance in Olympic basketball, having now won 17 out of 20 appearances in the games.
The final, held on Saturday night, saw Steph Curry deliver a standout performance, leading Team USA with a crucial late-game surge. Curry’s four 3-pointers in the last two minutes were instrumental in sealing the victory, with his final shot landing with just 1:19 left on the clock.
Team USA’s exceptional shooting from beyond the arc played a pivotal role in their success. The Americans made 50% of their 3-point attempts, going 18-for-36, while France struggled, hitting only 30% (9-for-30) from long range.
Kevin Durant made history with this victory, becoming the most awarded gold medalist in Olympic basketball history. Durant, alongside Devin Booker, contributed 15 points each to Team USA’s tally. LeBron James, who now has three gold medals and one bronze to his name, added 14 points.
On the French side, Victor Wembanyama led the effort with a game-high 26 points and seven rebounds. Guerschon Yabusele followed with 20 points, while Nando De Colo added 12. Nicolas Batum was a strong presence on the boards, grabbing eight rebounds.
This loss marks the second time in recent years that France has fallen short against the U.S. in Olympic play, with a narrower defeat in Tokyo three years ago, where the final score was 87-82. Despite their best efforts, Team France was unable to overcome the American powerhouse, who once again proved their mettle on the global stage.
As Team USA celebrates yet another Olympic victory, Kevin Durant’s historic achievement stands as a testament to his exceptional career and enduring legacy in the sport of basketball.
