Brooks Koepka and his wife, Jena Sims, are currently navigating a challenging time after their baby boy, Crew, was born six weeks early on July 27, 2024. Although the couple announced his birth on August 3, Jena later revealed that Crew had arrived earlier than expected and was immediately placed in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
Jena, a Sports Illustrated Swim Search finalist, shared the emotional struggle of leaving the hospital without their baby. “Leaving the hospital without your baby is something I wish on no one,” she wrote. “It’s the hardest thing we’ve ever done. There’s so much space in my heart for NICU parents, and those who don’t get to bring their babies home.”
She expressed relief and gratitude that Crew is making progress in the NICU. “He’s off oxygen, breathing on his own. He is starting to take a bottle (in very small amounts) otherwise feeding through his nose. He is meeting tiny milestones every day!” she shared. Jena also explained that Crew was delivered via C-section, a decision made to ensure his safety. “The C-section was not my first choice but it was the only way to get him here safely,” she explained. While the procedure was difficult, she is taking her recovery step by step.
The couple has been visiting Crew as often as possible and has found solace in the fact that he is receiving the best possible care. Despite the challenges, Jena remains optimistic, even noting that she has finally turned a corner with her own recovery. However, the emotional toll of not being able to be with Crew constantly is a hurdle she continues to face.
Brooks Koepka and Jena Sims, who met at The Masters in 2015, announced their pregnancy in May 2024. Jena shared the exciting news on Instagram, coinciding with Koepka’s birthday. “Happiest birthday, the best is yet to come,” she captioned a series of photos, including one of Koepka kissing her baby bump and holding a sonogram photo.
Originally, the couple had planned a baby shower for this past Saturday, but with Crew’s early arrival, they decided to donate the party, including the catering, to Quantum House, a local charity that supports families of children receiving medical treatment.
Throughout her pregnancy, Jena has remained active in her career, making it to the top seven in Sports Illustrated’s Swim Search and even walking the runway during Miami Swim Week in June. Despite their different career paths, the couple supports each other deeply. Jena recently spoke about how supportive Koepka is of her career, saying, “He’s so supportive, and I think that’s why our relationship is so successful because I’m also supportive of his hopes and dreams. And he’s so interested in everything that I have going on, which couldn’t be further from what he has going on.”
Koepka, who plays on the Saudi-backed LIV Golf circuit, celebrated a major victory earlier this year when he won his fifth major title at the PGA Championship at Oak Hill. It was a significant win, marking the first time a LIV Golf player has won a major since the series began last June. The victory was especially meaningful for Koepka, who has battled back from recent knee injuries.
Although Jena couldn’t be at the tournament due to her commitments in Miami for Sports Illustrated, she anxiously followed Koepka’s final round from home, sharing her excitement and alluding to her pregnancy in a TikTok video as she watched her husband on the 18th green.
The couple, who tied the knot in a stunning beach-side wedding in Turks and Caicos in June 2022, continues to lean on each other during this difficult time. As Crew continues to make progress in the NICU, they remain hopeful and grateful for the support they’ve received from family, friends, and fans.
