Tiger Woods and Justin Timberlake have secured a drinks license for their new sports bar in St Andrews, Scotland, moving them closer to transforming the New Picture House into a “unique” bar and restaurant in the town known as the home of golf.
Woods, a frequent competitor at the St Andrews links during his peak golfing years, and Timberlake, a chart-topping musician, already operate a bar under the T-Squared Social brand in New York. They have been eager to expand their brand to the UK.
The venue, a category-B listed cinema, is located near the Old Course, where Woods has twice won The Open Championship. The duo has confirmed that work on the new establishment will begin before the end of 2024, following the recent approval of their alcohol license and planning permission last month.
Plans submitted to Fife Council, with the support of the cinema’s owner, stated that T-Squared Social would offer a “fun, family-friendly” destination under one roof. The proposal was deemed acceptable in terms of design, detailing, and materials, aiming to protect and enhance the character of the conservation area.
The cinema is set to close next month, with a reopening scheduled for the summer of 2025, just in time for events like Wimbledon, the UEFA Women’s Euros, and the US Open.
Christopher Anand, managing partner for T-Squared Social, expressed excitement about the project, emphasizing that the new venue would ensure a continued cinema presence in the town for future generations. He also noted the importance of ongoing collaboration with the local community and council as construction progresses.
David Morris, the managing director of the New Picture House, will oversee the transition to the new venture.
