Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler are set to face off against LIV Golf’s Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau in a high-stakes match that brings the ongoing tension between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf to the course. This made-for-television event is scheduled to take place in Las Vegas this December.

McIlroy confirmed the matchup to Golfweek, expressing his excitement: “I’m thrilled to partner with Scottie in what promises to be an exciting duel against Bryson and Brooks in Vegas this December. This isn’t just a contest between some of golf’s major champions; it’s an event designed to energize the fans. We’re all here to put on a great show and contribute to a goodwill event that brings the best together again.”

This event will serve as a symbolic bridge between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, as merger talks between the two entities continue without resolution after 15 months of negotiations. The match will also reignite McIlroy’s rivalry with DeChambeau, who defeated him under pressure at the U.S. Open in June.

December’s event will mark the tenth edition of the exhibition series, which began in 2018 with a showdown between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. Notably, DeChambeau and Koepka previously faced off as opponents in The Match V but will now join forces as teammates following their defection to LIV Golf.

The previous edition of The Match series, held in February, saw McIlroy, Max Homa, and LPGA stars Lexi Thompson and Rose Zhang compete in a 12-hole skins match under the lights at The Park golf course. It was McIlroy’s second appearance in the series and his first victory, following a previous loss with Tiger Woods to Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas in The Match 7.

Additionally, last year’s event featured a thrilling NFL vs. NBA showdown, where Super Bowl champions Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes dominated Steph Curry and Klay Thompson on the golf course in Las Vegas.
