The Race to Dubai, which culminates with the awarding of the prestigious Harry Vardon Trophy, offers a lucrative prize for the world’s best golfers. Since 2009, the winner of the Race to Dubai has been honored with the Harry Vardon Trophy, and in 2024, the race is set to be just as competitive as ever.
To be crowned European Number One, a golfer must have played in at least four counting events (excluding Majors) during the 2024 season. The season is structured into three phases, featuring 44 tournaments across 24 countries and five continents: the Global Swings phase, the Back 9, and the DP World Tour Playoffs, which consist of the Abu Dhabi Championship and the DP World Tour Championship.
Throughout the season, players accumulate points based on their performances. Regular Global Swings events award 3,000 Race to Dubai Ranking Points each, while the Back 9 events offer 5,000 points per event. The Abu Dhabi Championship will grant 9,000 points, and the DP World Tour Championship will offer a maximum of 12,000 points.
Additionally, the Rolex Series events provide even more points, with the first two events each awarding 8,000 points, and the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth offering the same.
At the end of the season, the player with the most points will win the Race to Dubai, securing not only the Harry Vardon Trophy but also a $2 million bonus from a total bonus pool of $6 million. This bonus pool is distributed among the top 10 finishers in the Race to Dubai standings as follows:
– **1st place**: $2,000,000
– **2nd place**: $1,000,000
– **3rd place**: $750,000
– **4th place**: $550,000
– **5th place**: $450,000
– **6th place**: $350,000
– **7th place**: $300,000
– **8th place**: $250,000
– **9th place**: $200,000
– **10th place**: $150,000
Rory McIlroy, who has dominated the Race to Dubai in recent years with victories in the last two seasons (and five times overall), is once again a favorite as he leads the 2024 standings, bolstered by his win at the Dubai Desert Classic in January. As the season draws to a close, all eyes will be on who ultimately claims the title and the accompanying $2 million prize.
