Jordan Spieth has recently shed light on the severity of a wrist injury that has affected him for several years, ultimately leading to surgery. The multiple major champion’s season came to an end at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in August, after which he immediately announced his need for surgery. Spieth, a three-time major winner, is unlikely to return to competitive action until at least December.
Earlier in the season, Spieth explained that the tendon sheath in his left wrist was torn, preventing it from staying in place properly. Despite this, he continued to play, although his performances have been below the standard he sets for himself. His best major finish this season was a tie for 25th at The Open in July, while he missed the cut at The Masters and failed to make an impact at the PGA Championship and the U.S. Open.
In a recent interview with PGA Tour Sirius XM radio, Spieth revealed that the wrist injury actually dates back several years. He initially damaged it during training around seven years ago but did not seek immediate treatment. Then, in May of last year, the injury worsened while he was playing in the pool with his son, Sammy. Since then, the issue has been intermittent but persistent.
