A season of high expectations is about to begin for the Green Bay Packers, who surprised many in 2023. Here’s why they are primed to win the Super Bowl.
**GREEN BAY, Wis.** – The Packers closed out last season strong, defeating both the Kansas City Chiefs and Detroit Lions, and winning three straight to secure a playoff spot. After routing the Dallas Cowboys, they nearly upset the San Francisco 49ers to advance to the NFC Championship Game.
Last season, the Packers showed flashes of Super Bowl potential. This year, they’re poised to make that potential a reality. As they prepare to face the Philadelphia Eagles in the season opener, here are three reasons why the Packers will bring the Lombardi Trophy back to Green Bay.
### 1. Jordan Love’s Ascendancy
Every championship team needs a top-tier quarterback, and the Packers may have found theirs in Jordan Love.
During the latter half of last season, Love was arguably the best quarterback in the league. In the final eight games, his stats were remarkable:
– **1st** in passing yards (2,150)
– **1st** in 100+ passer rating games (7)
– **1st** in touchdown-to-interception ratio (18 to 1)
– **1st** in fewest interceptions (1) with significantly more attempts than others
– **1st** in success rate (53.8%)
– **2nd** in passer rating (112.7)
– **3rd** in completion percentage (70.3%)
Love’s performance mirrored some of the best of Aaron Rodgers’ career, and his historic playoff win in Dallas cemented his place among elite quarterbacks.
“I think everybody is very hungry,” Love said. “The message this year is to start fast, put people on notice, and show what we’re about.”
### 2. A Wealth of Offensive Weapons
Love isn’t working alone. The Packers are stacked with playmakers at every position.
Romeo Doubs is a dangerous route-runner and red-zone target. Jayden Reed is an explosive slot receiver, and Christian Watson’s elite speed makes him a game-changing threat. Dontayvion Wicks adds big-play ability, while Bo Melton brings elite speed, and Malik Heath provides toughness.
Tight ends Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft are major contributors as well, with Musgrave stretching the field and Kraft excelling after the catch. Even running back Josh Jacobs, with 197 career receptions, is a threat in the passing game.
With excellent pass protection from Zach Tom, Rasheed Walker, and Elgton Jenkins, the Packers’ offense could be their best since 2011.
Christian Watson summed it up: “We have expectations for ourselves that are higher than most people’s. The excitement is there, but we know we’ve got to put in the work.”
### 3. A New-Look Defense
New defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley is a question mark, but his aggressive approach has won over the players. After three years under Joe Barry, the defense is ready for a fresh start.
A major area for improvement is turnovers. The Packers managed just seven interceptions last year, a steep drop from 17 in 2022 and 18 in 2021. Hafley’s emphasis on takeaways could be the key to unlocking a dominant defense.
“We’re building a championship defense here,” said one player. “We want people to think of the Packers as a defensive team. It starts Friday night.”
With Love leading a potent offense and Hafley’s revamped defense, the Packers are ready to contend for the Super Bowl.
