Scottie Scheffler has formed a powerful partnership with his caddie, Ted Scott, making them the most successful golfer-caddie duo on the PGA Tour this year. Despite their success, not everyone seems to understand the vital role an elite caddie plays in the game.
In a recent social media exchange, a troll mocked the profession, only for Scott to respond with a sharp comeback.
The interaction began when Kip Henly, a longtime PGA Tour caddie, humorously tweeted, “I’ll pay @jtedscott $1.5 million to let me caddie for him next year. It’s a risky plan, but fair. Teddy can relax on the couch without worrying about spraining an ankle in a hole.”
However, when one user criticized the profession, saying, “‘Caddie’ is the most overrated job in history. There are literally 10 million people in the U.S. who could do Ted’s job,” Scott clapped back by tweeting, “Wrong. Not everyone would want to spend time with you because you’re negative and tweet mean stuff. So that leaves 9,999,999 people that could do my ‘job.'”
Scottie’s trust in Scott is well-known, as he’s credited his caddie with playing a crucial role in his success. Scott, one of the best in the field, previously worked with Bubba Watson during his two Masters victories, and has since helped Scheffler secure two Green Jackets of his own.
As Scheffler has earned over $62 million in winnings this season, Scott is expected to take home at least $5 million—despite the online criticism.
