Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy are set to face off against LIV Golf stars Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka in a made-for-TV match in Las Vegas, according to a report by Golfweek on Wednesday. This event marks the first time that top players from both circuits will compete head-to-head outside of the Major Championships.
Blake Smith, who manages Scheffler and Koepka at Hambric Sports, confirmed their participation, stating that both players are “excited to be part of this unique event.” While the exact date and course for the December match have yet to be announced, the competition promises to be a major highlight.
The four players have collectively won 13 Major titles in the past decade. The match is particularly noteworthy as it brings together golfers from the PGA Tour and the Saudi-funded LIV Golf circuit, a rare occurrence outside of the Majors and the Olympics.
Meanwhile, the PGA Tour is still in negotiations with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, the financial backer of LIV Golf, regarding a potential minority investment. Although no deal appears to be imminent, any agreement would require approval from the U.S. Department of Justice. The PGA Tour recently reiterated that any player who competes in a LIV event will be ineligible to participate in tour events for one year following their last appearance.
