How to Watch the US Open Women’s Final
The US Open women’s final is set to take place at the iconic Arthur Ashe Stadium at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN and streamed on ESPN+.
Is it Pegula’s Moment?
Jessica Pegula has had a standout summer on the North American hard court swing, winning the Canadian Open in August and reaching the final of the Cincinnati Open, where she was defeated by Aryna Sabalenka. Despite the setback, Pegula has been on a remarkable run at the US Open, breaking her grand slam quarterfinal curse after defeating world No. 1 Iga Świątek in straight sets.
In the semifinals, Pegula overcame a tough challenge from Karolína Muchová, dropping her first set of the tournament but coming back to win 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. Now, she has the chance to claim her first major title in front of a home crowd.
“This is a childhood dream,” said Pegula, the sixth seed. “All the hard work has led to this moment. If you had told me at the start of the year that I’d be in the US Open final, I would have laughed. But now, I’m here, with a chance to win it all in my home country – it’s perfect.”
Pegula trails Sabalenka 2-5 in their head-to-head matchups, with their most recent meeting in the Cincinnati Open final going in Sabalenka’s favor. But Pegula is hopeful about her chances: “She served unbelievably in Cincinnati, but I still had opportunities. Hopefully, she won’t serve as well on Saturday. Just a little less would be nice.”
Sabalenka’s Shot at Redemption
Sabalenka has built a reputation as a dominant force on hard courts, having won two major titles at the Australian Open and five WTA 1000 titles on the surface. Despite her ranking and head-to-head advantage over Pegula, Sabalenka will face the challenge of playing in front of a partisan New York crowd.
Reflecting on last year’s US Open final, where she struggled against the support for Gauff, Sabalenka is determined not to let that affect her again. “Last year was a tough experience, but today I’m focusing on the people who support me – my team, my family – and just fighting for it.”
Sabalenka has only dropped one set on her way to the final and is coming off a dominant win against Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen in the quarterfinals. Knowing her history with Pegula, Sabalenka expects another tough battle.
“We’ve had some great matches in the past,” she said. “She’s in amazing form right now, and it’s going to be another difficult fight.”
Saturday’s final promises to be an intense showdown between two of the world’s top players, with both Pegula and Sabalenka determined to claim the US Open title.
