Scottie Scheffler Caps a Stellar Season with FedExCup Victory
Scottie Scheffler crowned an extraordinary 2024 season with a win at the FedExCup and the Tour Championship, drawing comparisons to Tiger Woods in his prime. This triumph at East Lake Golf Club marked Scheffler’s seventh victory of the season, a year in which he also claimed Olympic gold in Paris. Among his wins were prestigious titles at the Masters, The Players Championship, and the FedExCup, making him the first player to achieve this remarkable trifecta. Scheffler is also the first player since Woods in 2007 to secure seven victories in a single PGA Tour season.
Scheffler led the FedExCup standings for the final 25 weeks of the season—21 weeks longer than any other player in history, with Vijay Singh’s 2008 record of four weeks being the closest. Over his career, Scheffler has spent 50 weeks atop the FedExCup standings, second only to Woods’ 85 weeks.
In each of the past two years, Scheffler arrived at East Lake ranked first in the FedExCup, but with varying results: a sixth-place tie in 2023 and a one-stroke loss to Rory McIlroy in 2022. This year, Scheffler came to Atlanta as the world No. 1, a ranking he has maintained for 68 consecutive weeks and for 103 weeks in total. He joins Dustin Johnson (2020), Justin Rose (2018), and Woods (2009, 2007) as players who have held the No. 1 spot while winning the FedExCup.
