Fight week officially kicked off on Tuesday as Mexican superstar and pound-for-pound great Canelo Álvarez and WBA No. 1-ranked mandatory contender Edgar Berlanga made their grand arrivals in Las Vegas.
Presented by Canelo Promotions, this event will be a Mexican Independence Day Weekend spectacle, headlining a PBC Pay-Per-View event on Prime Video this Saturday, September 14, from T-Mobile Arena. Canelo will defend his WBC, WBA, and WBO Super Middleweight World Titles against the unbeaten and determined challenger Berlanga, adding to the rich history of the Mexico vs. Puerto Rico boxing rivalry. Both fighters are eager for Saturday’s showdown and each predicted a knockout victory in honor of their respective countries.
“I’m knocking him out in eight rounds or less,” Canelo declared. “He’s a good fighter, strong, but nothing I haven’t seen before. My experience will make the difference on Saturday.”
Berlanga countered confidently, saying, “I’m going to knock him out in the sixth round. When the spotlight’s on, I deliver. This is war—Puerto Rico versus Mexico. We’re about to make history.”
Tuesday’s grand arrivals also featured fighters participating in the pay-per-view event, which begins at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. The co-main event will see reigning WBA Middleweight World Champion Erislandy “The American Dream” Lara face two-division world champion Danny “Swift” García. Additionally, former super middleweight world champion Caleb Plant will take on undefeated contender Trevor McCumby for the Interim WBA Super Middleweight Title, while former 140-pound world champion Rolando “Rolly” Romero will go up against the heavy-hitting Manuel Jaimes in the pay-per-view opener.
Fans can purchase the PPV on Prime Video, DAZN.com, or PPV.com, and through traditional cable and satellite providers, with or without a Prime membership.
