A brand-new ATP 250 tournament, the Hangzhou Open, will debut in China on September 18th. This marks the first time the city of Hangzhou, located near Shanghai, will host an ATP event. The tournament is expected to offer players conditions similar to those at the prestigious Shanghai Masters, making it an appealing stop for players aiming to prepare for the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Shanghai.
In contrast to the concurrent ATP event in Chengdu, where conditions differ from those in Shanghai, the Hangzhou Open may be a smarter choice for players fine-tuning their game ahead of the Shanghai Masters. While some notable players have withdrawn, fans can still look forward to seeing Holger Rune, a rising star in the tennis world. Rune, the top seed, will receive a first-round bye and will face either Sumit Nagal or a qualifier in the second round. Should he advance, Rune could meet Yoshihito Nishioka or the seasoned Marin Cilic.
Cilic, returning after months of injury, is making his comeback at this tournament. Having recently resumed competitive play, he will be eager to make an impact at his first ATP Tour-level event since his recovery.
Another highlight in the draw is Brandon Nakashima, who has been in excellent form recently. Nakashima tends to thrive in Asia, where the faster court surfaces suit his game well.
