Amanda Balionis, a well-known presenter at CBS Sports, has expressed her joy at returning to her favorite pre-game ritual after making the switch from golf to NFL coverage earlier this summer. Having been a familiar face in golf broadcasting for years, Balionis bid an emotional farewell to the sport following the completion of the four major championships this year. Now, she has transitioned back to covering the NFL, a sport she has extensive experience with.
Her return to the NFL scene was highlighted during week two’s matchup at Bank of America Stadium, where the Carolina Panthers faced off against the Los Angeles Chargers. Unfortunately for the Panthers, they were soundly beaten, 26-3, with their first points not coming until the third quarter when they were already trailing 20-0 at halftime.
Ahead of the game, Balionis took to Instagram to share her excitement at being back in the thick of things. She posted a snapshot of herself inside the production truck, holding a cup of coffee—a ritual she has long cherished. The production truck, a critical component of live broadcasts, was buzzing with activity as multiple screens showed various camera angles from inside the stadium, along with the live broadcast feed. In the picture, Balionis is seen in front of her laptop, which displayed a weather map partially covered by a few sheets of paper.
In her post, Balionis expressed her enthusiasm, writing: “One of my favorite rituals is back! Morning coffee in the truck.” This coffee routine seems to be a key part of her preparation for the day, as she got ready to cover the highly anticipated Panthers-Chargers game.
Though Amanda’s return to NFL sidelines came in week two, she made sure to announce her comeback before the game, posting on social media: “Time to get back at it! Week 2 Chargers at Panthers … see you Sunday!” Although her fans had been expecting her to appear in the season opener, she had not covered any games the previous week. Nevertheless, she made her presence known for this game.
On Instagram, Balionis shared another snapshot, showcasing her interviews with Chargers running back J.K. Dobbins and Panthers wide receiver Adam Thielen. Dobbins had an exceptional performance, rushing for 131 yards and completely outshining his teammates, including fellow Charger Gus Edwards.
The Panthers, meanwhile, have had a tough start to the season. In week one, they suffered a devastating 47-10 defeat at the hands of the New Orleans Saints, leaving them with two straight losses early in the season. On the other hand, the Chargers celebrated back-to-back victories after defeating the Las Vegas Raiders 22-10 in their first game of the season.
Balionis has a long history of covering both the NFL and collegiate football for CBS Sports, and her connections to the sport run deep, even into her personal life. She was previously married to former quarterback Bryn Renner, although recent reports suggest the two may have separated. Despite any personal challenges, Balionis remains focused on her professional role, diving back into the fast-paced world of NFL coverage with excitement and dedication.
