Tiger Woods made history at the 2024 Masters in his first full PGA Tour event in over a year. After a challenging start, Woods completed the second round on Friday with an even-par 72, despite facing tough, windy conditions at Augusta National. His performance allowed him to finish inside the top 50, becoming the first player in Masters history to make the cut 24 consecutive times.
Woods had little time to recover between rounds. The first round, delayed by rain, finished less than an hour before the start of the second round. He showed signs of fatigue early, recording four bogeys in the second round, three of which came on the front nine. However, Woods regained momentum, sinking three birdies, including a spectacular chip-in on the par-3 sixth hole.
He finished the round strong, securing par on the 18th hole with a steady putt, which earned him a standing ovation from the Augusta National crowd. The result marked an impressive return for Woods, especially given the challenges he has faced in recent years.
In his last PGA Tour event, the 2024 Genesis Invitational, Woods was forced to withdraw after 24 holes due to physical discomfort. His appearance at the Masters marks his first full PGA Tour event since undergoing surgery on his right ankle in April 2023. This surgery was part of a series of medical procedures to repair damage to his leg and ankle, injuries sustained in a car accident in 2021. Despite his extended absence from competitive golf, Woods demonstrated resilience and determination by making the cut at the Masters.
As the tournament continues, Woods is chasing his sixth Masters title and his first since 2019. Another victory would bring him to a total of 83 PGA Tour wins, tying him with Jack Nicklaus for the most tournament victories in history. The third round of the 2024 Masters is set to begin on Saturday, with tee times yet to be determined.
All eyes are on Woods as he continues his pursuit of history at Augusta National.
