Horschel secured his victory on the second playoff hole with an eagle on the par-5 18th, surpassing McIlroy, whose own eagle attempt narrowly missed the right side of the hole.
Horschel birdied the 18th hole in regulation to join McIlroy and Thriston Lawrence in a playoff. Lawrence was eliminated after the first playoff hole, also the par-5 18th, while McIlroy missed a 25-foot birdie putt that would have won the tournament in regulation.
