Steelers Pursuing Veteran Receivers
The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly exploring options for veteran wide receiver help as the NFL trade deadline nears. According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, the team is monitoring the market and has its eye on Christian Kirk from the Jacksonville Jaguars and DeAndre Hopkins of the Tennessee Titans. Both players could become available if their teams fall out of playoff contention.
Kirk, a former teammate of Hopkins in Arizona, signed a large contract with Jacksonville and has delivered solid production with 151 receptions for 2,003 yards and 11 touchdowns over 32 games. He is set to make $14.5 million this season and $15.5 million next year.
Hopkins, once considered a potential Hall of Famer, has struggled with injuries, missing 15 games in the past three seasons. However, the 31-year-old still managed 75 catches for 1,057 yards and seven touchdowns last season. If traded to Pittsburgh, he could slot in as their second receiver behind George Pickens.
This news follows months of speculation regarding the Steelers’ interest in acquiring Brandon Aiyuk from the San Francisco 49ers to bolster their receiving corps.
Zach Banner Eyes NFL Comeback
Former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Zach Banner, a fan favorite during his time with the team, is aiming for a return to the NFL. Banner, known for his “Mister Eligible” nickname due to his role as an extra tight end, posted a workout video on social media, announcing his readiness to resume playing after a two-year absence.
Banner’s promising career was derailed by a torn ACL suffered during the Steelers’ 2020 season opener, and lingering knee issues kept him sidelined for much of the following year. At 30 years old and out of football since 2021, a successful return to the field would be challenging, but Banner remains determined.
Duck Hodges Resurfaces in Steelers Memories
Devlin “Duck” Hodges, the Steelers’ unexpected starting quarterback in 2019, made headlines again after the team’s current QB, Justin Fields, led the Steelers to a 3-0 start. Hodges, now retired, humorously responded on social media when reminded that he was the last Pittsburgh quarterback to
