Hidalgo’s path to victory was filled with tension. He carded four birdies and three bogeys in the final round and arrived at the 72nd hole with a one-shot lead over Rahm. However, a missed 4-foot birdie putt meant a playoff was necessary. Both players birdied the first playoff hole, but Hidalgo repeated the feat on the second, while Rahm could only manage par, giving Hidalgo the win.

With this victory, Ángel Hidalgo became the 20th Spaniard to claim the Open de España title, joining an illustrious list of previous champions, including Jon Rahm, Seve Ballesteros, Sergio Garcia, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, and Rafa Cabrera-Bello.
