Sun Day Red, Tiger Woods’ brand, is facing accusations of “unlawfully hijacking” another company’s logo. Tigeraire, a cooling product manufacturer, claims that Woods’ brand logo closely resembles its own. Both logos feature a tiger leaping to the right with stripes, but Tigeraire believes the similarities go beyond coincidence.
Woods’ brand launched in May, featuring a tiger with 15 stripes, representing each of his major wins. He has mentioned his intention to add more stripes as he wins more titles. However, the trademark dispute may put a stop to that plan, depending on the outcome of the case. A side-by-side comparison of the two logos reveals some similarities, particularly in the tiger’s design and the monochrome color scheme. Still, differences in the style and line weights may complicate the issue.
Tigeraire’s trademark opposition filing accuses Sun Day Red, TaylorMade (the company behind Woods’ brand), and Woods himself of violating intellectual property law and creating consumer confusion. They argue that SDR’s trademark application should be denied.
On the other hand, Sun Day Red and TaylorMade remain confident in their logo, to the extent of filing a countersuit. They claim no infringement has occurred and suggest that Tigeraire is attempting to profit from the larger brand.
This isn’t the only logo dispute making headlines, as Megan Markle is also facing trademark issues, creating opportunities for her brand.
