Emma Raducanu has enjoyed several lucrative off-court deals since her historic 2021 US Open victory, but one of her associates recently revealed that Porsche reclaimed a car she had been using. Over three years have passed since Raducanu shocked the tennis world by winning the US Open as an 18-year-old qualifier, capturing the title without dropping a set.
Her remarkable achievement in New York brought a surge of media attention and commercial success. Raducanu has openly discussed the challenges of managing heightened expectations following her win. Financially, she was handsomely rewarded, securing endorsement deals with major brands such as Vodafone, Dior, Evian, and HSBC. She also became a global ambassador for Porsche, a deal that seemed fitting given her love of cars.
However, despite the financial rewards, Raducanu has faced a difficult period on the court. A mix of injuries and inconsistent form has plagued her since her US Open triumph. After a nine-month hiatus due to wrist and ankle injuries earlier this year, Raducanu’s decision-making regarding her tournament schedule has come under scrutiny. Critics, including a prominent fitness trainer, have labeled some of her choices as “crazy” and “mind-boggling,” suggesting she may be surrounded by advisors telling her what she wants to hear rather than what’s in her best interest.
Raducanu aimed to participate in more matches during the Asian swing of the tour but had to retire from her Korea Open quarterfinal against Daria Kasatkina after just 31 minutes, citing a foot ligament sprain. As a result of the injury, she withdrew from both the China Open and the Wuhan Open. It remains unclear if she will return to competition before the end of the season.
Amid these struggles, the Daily Mail reported that Raducanu’s situation worsened when Porsche reclaimed a car she had been using. One of her associates confirmed the development, stating, “Emma no longer has a Porsche. They took it back. It used to have pride of place at her home.”
Raducanu’s passion for cars, especially Porsches, is well-known. She expressed her enthusiasm in a video made for Porsche in 2022, where she was seen driving alongside former Formula 1 driver Mark Webber. The news of Porsche reclaiming the car seemed like another blow in her recent streak of challenges.
A Porsche spokesperson clarified that while Raducanu had been loaned a car in the past, this was never a permanent arrangement. “While we do on occasion loan Emma a car, this is very much on an ad hoc basis,” the representative said. A source within Porsche hinted that the company tends to swiftly reclaim vehicles from celebrity ambassadors if it feels it’s not getting sufficient value from the partnership.
Though it has not been explicitly confirmed, Raducanu’s recent dip in form could have influenced Porsche’s decision to retrieve the car. Nevertheless, the Porsche spokesperson reaffirmed that Raducanu remains an ambassador for the brand and that the company is satisfied with their relationship.
