The 2024 Korn Ferry Tour season wrapped up with a dramatic finale at the Korn Ferry Tour Championship, where 74 golfers competed for coveted PGA Tour cards. By the end of the season, 30 players secured their spots on the PGA Tour, but in addition to the prestige, there was also significant prize money awarded over the 26-tournament season. So, how much did the top earner on the Korn Ferry Tour make, and how does that compare to earnings on the PGA Tour?
The highest earner on the Korn Ferry Tour this season was Matt McCarty, who topped the Money List with a total of $1,001,602, bolstered by three victories throughout the season. McCarty’s earnings significantly surpassed that of runner-up Max McGreevy, who took home $766,813. Both players will be heading to the PGA Tour next season.
McCarty’s largest paydays came from his three wins, including $180,000 at both the Price Cutter Charity Championship and the Pinnacle Bank Championship. His biggest single payout came from his victory at the first Korn Ferry Tour Finals event, the Albertsons Boise Open, where he earned $270,000. A T5 finish at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship added another $54,375, pushing his total earnings to just over $1 million. His winnings also far exceeded the Korn Ferry Tour’s average earnings for 2024, which came to $112,503.
In comparison, earnings on the PGA Tour are significantly higher. With six events remaining in the season, the average PGA Tour player has earned around $1,956,000 so far. To put McCarty’s earnings in perspective, the first PGA Tour player with earnings lower than McCarty is Nico Echavarria, ranked 121st, with $977,660.
McCarty has already had a taste of PGA Tour action, finishing T63 at the Sanderson Farms Championship, which earned him $16,340. That currently places him 232nd on the 2024 PGA Tour Money List, far behind leader Scottie Scheffler, who has accumulated a staggering $29,228,357 in official earnings. This figure doesn’t include the $30 million bonus Scheffler earned for winning the FedEx Cup.
As McCarty and the other Korn Ferry Tour graduates prepare to join the PGA Tour, they can look forward to far greater financial rewards, assuming their form holds up. The leap from the Korn Ferry Tour to the PGA Tour offers a substantial increase in prize money and opportunities.
