Several prominent tennis players, including Christopher Eubanks and Milos Raonic, are expressing optimism about Rafael Nadal’s potential triumphant return to the court in 2024. After a considerable absence in 2023, Nadal initiated his comeback at the Brisbane International, reaching the quarterfinals but subsequently withdrawing from the ongoing Australian Open due to a muscle injury.
In a recent ATP Tour video featuring players’ bold predictions for 2024, many voiced their support for Nadal’s comeback as the best and most heartwarming story of the year. Christopher Eubanks, currently ranked World No. 35, emphasized that Nadal’s return would offer tennis fans a moment to appreciate his greatness and the effort required to reclaim his form.
“I think his [Rafael Nadal’s] comeback will allow fans to have a moment of just appreciating his greatness, appreciating his hard work and everything that it took to be able to get back. And I think that’ll be a feel-good story for all of tennis,” stated Eubanks in the video.
Arthur Cazaux, a 21-year-old French player who recently made his Grand Slam fourth-round debut at the Australian Open, expressed his hope to witness Nadal back at his peak, highlighting the positive impact it could have on the entire tennis community.
“Rafa’s going to have the best comeback, I hope. Because I’m a big fan of him! It can be a good story for him and for everybody, for tennis,” shared Cazaux enthusiastically.
Milos Raonic, a 2016 Wimbledon finalist currently on his own comeback journey, echoed the sentiments of many, emphasizing the widespread desire to see Nadal succeed. Raonic praised Nadal’s initial performance in Brisbane and expressed confidence that the injury setback would not hinder his ability to make a successful return.
“I think a lot of people would love to see him do well, obviously. It was nice to see him play well right away at the beginning in his first tournament. Unfortunate that he got hurt again but from what I’ve heard, it doesn’t sound too serious, so he’ll be able to come back,” stated Raonic optimistically.
Nineteen-year-old Alex Michelsen added to the chorus of support, envisioning Nadal’s return as a feel-good story, particularly if he performs well at the French Open, where he holds the impressive record of 14-time champion.
While Nadal had to withdraw from the Australian Open, anticipation is high for his return to the ATP 250 in Doha (February 19-24), where he previously clinched the championship in 2014. Tennis enthusiasts and fellow players alike eagerly await the comeback of the Spanish legend, hoping it will be a memorable chapter in the sport’s history.
