Toronto Maple Leafs faced a setback during a recent practice as forward Calle Jarnkrok suffered an injury, the extent of which remains unknown according to head coach Sheldon Keefe. The incident occurred during a drill, and a video shared by reporter David Alter captured Jarnkrok leaving practice in frustration after blocking a shot. The 32-year-old Swede has an extensive NHL career, playing for teams like the Nashville Predators, Seattle Kraken, Calgary Flames, and the Maple Leafs. In the current season, Jarnkrok has contributed 10 goals and nine assists in 46 games.
Having played over 500 games with the Predators before moving to the Kraken in the 2021-22 season, Jarnkrok has accumulated 136 goals and 163 assists in 693 career games. Drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the second round of the 2010 NHL Draft, he has also represented Sweden internationally, winning gold at the 2013 IIHF World Championships and bronze in 2014.
Losing a seasoned player like Jarnkrok is a significant blow for the Maple Leafs, as he plays a crucial role in the team’s bottom six and is versatile in various forward positions. Known for his defensive capabilities, Jarnkrok’s absence will necessitate lineup adjustments for the upcoming game against the Winnipeg Jets. While Tyler Bertuzzi’s return to practice offers some relief, the Leafs hope Jarnkrok’s injury isn’t long-term, considering his valuable contributions to the team.
