Tiger Woods is poised to return to competitive golf next week, as he gears up for the Genesis Invitational in Los Angeles. It marks his first appearance on the PGA Tour since December’s Hero World Challenge. The 15-time major champion, known for his illustrious career, has been absent from the tour since last year’s Bahamas event but is now set to make his comeback at the Genesis.
Aside from competing, Woods will also fulfill his role as the host of the tournament, a duty he’s undertaken since around 2020. This dual responsibility reflects his continued dedication to the sport despite facing physical challenges. Over the past two seasons, Woods has limited his schedule due to injuries sustained in a car accident in 2020, shortly after his hosting duties at Riviera.
In 2023, Woods made just a few appearances on the Tour due to fitness concerns. Similarly, his return in 2024 begins at the Genesis Invitational, followed by the Masters. However, his last outing at Augusta National was marred by a lower leg injury, forcing him to withdraw from the tournament.
Following his injury setback, Woods took an eight-month hiatus before returning to competitive golf at the Hero World Challenge last year. Now, as he prepares for the Genesis Invitational, Woods is also teasing a significant announcement regarding his future endeavors.
After parting ways with Nike Golf, his longtime sponsor, Woods hinted at a forthcoming announcement with a cryptic tweet featuring a serious headshot of himself and the caption “The vision remains the same. 2.12.24.” This announcement, slated for February 12, is expected to reveal his new clothing deal, likely with TaylorMade, a brand he already uses for equipment.
In anticipation of this announcement, TaylorMade Lifestyle Ventures LLC recently filed for the trademark ‘Sunday Red’, the iconic attire worn by Woods during the final rounds of tournaments. This suggests a new clothing line, which could make its debut at the Genesis Invitational next week, further adding to the excitement surrounding Woods’ return to competitive golf.
