“Randi Mahomes Reflects on Raising NFL Star Son, Patrick Mahomes”

Randi Mahomes, the mother of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, has taken a moment to reflect on her journey raising the NFL star as he gears up for his fourth Super Bowl appearance. Her life took a significant turn when she became pregnant with Patrick at the age of 20 in 1995, altering her trajectory and providing her with newfound purpose.

Prior to Patrick’s arrival, Randi admits to feeling somewhat directionless after high school. However, becoming a mother transformed her perspective entirely. As the youngest of four children, she lacked experience in child-rearing but embraced motherhood with open arms. “Patrick is my first child, and I grew up with him basically,” Randi told PEOPLE magazine.

Despite the challenges of being a young parent, Randi acknowledges that having Patrick was the catalyst for her personal growth. “I had him at a young age, and I don’t go out saying that’s the best thing to do, but it was the best thing for me just because it made me grow up,” she reflects. “Sometimes, I look back and I’m like, ‘Where would I be if I didn’t have him?’ Because I wasn’t going down a bad road, I just wasn’t going on a road.”

Randi describes Patrick as her “little best friend” and credits him with helping her mature in a positive way. Despite the challenges of motherhood, she cherishes the experience, acknowledging that it is her favorite thing in life. “Being a mother is my favorite thing sometimes, and sometimes it’s hard, but it is my favorite thing, and I always say, ‘Where would I be without it?’”

Patrick, now 28, is not Randi’s only child. She shares him and Jackson, 23, with Pat Mahomes Sr., and also has a daughter named Mia, who is 12, from another relationship. Initially concerned about the significant age gap between Patrick and Mia, Randi has been pleasantly surprised by the strong relationships all her children have developed. “He is always keeping tabs on what Mia’s doing, both him and Brittany [Mahomes],” Randi says. “It’s a fun relationship for them to have, and being that I was so nervous they wouldn’t know each other, I can say now that they know each other.”
