The World number two kept her country’s hopes alive by beating Jasmine Paolini in the second match of the semi-final tie against Italy.
But alongside Katarzyna Kawa, Swiatek lost the deciding doubles contest 5-7, 5-7 to Olympic champions Paolini and Sara Errani, as Italy went on to win the title.

What did Iga Swiatek say about her 2024 season?
2024 was an interesting one for Iga Swiatek, who claimed another Grand Slam title, but lost her World number one ranking.
Aryna Sabalenka produced the best season of her career, which included two major title wins, to ascend to the summit of women’s tennis.
This has also been a year of change for Swiatek, who now has a new coach in Wim Fissette after parting ways with Tomasz Wiktorowski.
On Friday afternoon, Swiatek took to social media to express how she felt about her season, which yielded five titles.
“Thanks for this season. First and foremost I’m thanking myself and my team because it was another extraordinary year,” the Pole wrote.
“It was the season of not being a superhero and accepting it, facing new challenges, grinding, hard work, appreciating milestones and unlocking new achievements.
“But what’s fundamental, I finish this year with huge satisfaction and pride in my grit, strength and everything that I’ve done and achieved which says more than any words.
“It’s time to rest and reset. My body and mind need that. Thank you to every kind and supportive human being who is by my side in this journey. See you soon.”

What were Iga Swiatek’s best results in 2024?
Swiatek began the season with a shock third round exit at the Australian Open, but was soon back winning titles when she claimed the Qatar Open.
In March Swiatek claimed her second title of the season by winning the Indian Wells Masters, before going on to have a superb clay court campaign.
After losing to Elena Rybakina in Stuttgart, Swiatek became the first player since Serena Williams in 2013 to win Madrid, Rome and the French Open in the same season.
During that time, she claimed wins over Sabalenka in back-to-back finals, before dominating Paolini in the Roland Garros final and lifted the title for the fourth time.
Things became more difficult for Swiatek in the second half of the year, with a Cincinnati semi-final appearance and a run to the last eight at the US Open being some of her best results.
Furthermore, Swiatek enjoyed some success at the Paris Olympic games, where she claimed the bronze medal after beating Slovakia’s Anna Schmiedlová.
