Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is currently tied for sixth for the most touchdowns so far this season (18). He falls to 10th in the NFL in terms of passing yards (2,673), and his 7.0 yards per pass attempt is even further down the rankings compared to other QBs in the league.
Despite his relatively modest numbers, however, the Chiefs have the best record in the league at 10-1, and they are looking like a strong bet for their third consecutive Super Bowl ring.
This is exactly the point Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner recently made on X as he shed some light on Mahomes’ elite talent. According to the one-time Super Bowl champ, it’s not all about the numbers — especially in the case of Mahomes.

“I know @PatrickMahomes may not have the stats we have come to know or the O may not be scoring up to expectations, but until you pop on the tape each week and see what exactly he is doing play-to-play, you have no idea how good this guy really is! He continually makes the play in the moment – whether it shows up as impressive in stat book or not!!” Warner wrote on X.
As Warner pointed out, Mahomes may not be the stat-stuffing type of quarterback — at least compared to the other superstar QBs of his generation — but what he brings to the table goes far beyond the box scores.
According to Warner, it’s with the nitty-gritty that Mahomes shows his true value. His ability to make the right decisions at the right time is up there with the best of them, and the fact that he’s now led the Chiefs to three titles — and a fourth potentially on its way — is an undeniable testament to this fact.
Warner is himself one of the greatest QBs to ever do it, so his high praise for the former Texas Tech standout here definitely says a lot.
The Chiefs are coming off a 30-27 win against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Mahomes led his team with another incredible performance, completing 27-of-37 passes for 269 yards and three touchdowns.
More of the same is expected from the 29-year-old Tyler, Texas native as the Chiefs return to action on Friday against the Las Vegas Raiders.
