In the upcoming 2024 Beginning Invitational, Tiger Woods will have Spear Bennett carrying his pack, marking a notable addition to his team. Bennett boasts over two decades of experience within the golf industry, having effectively worked with numerous top-ranked PGA Visit players over the years.
With a track record that includes stints with Sungjae Im, Davis Riley, Matt Kuchar, Charge Haas, Juli Inkster, Lorena Ochoa, and Paula Half and half, Bennett’s expertise is well-established. Though details about his early life in Ruler George, Virginia, are scarce, he has been an integral part of the PGA Visit caddie scene since 2003.
According to reports, Tiger Woods has been acquainted with Bennett since his time working with Matt Kuchar, indicating a pre-existing rapport between the two. While Bennett initially joined visit rookie Adrien Dumont de Chassart for the 2024 season, circumstances led him to partner with Woods for the Beginning Invitational.
However, it remains uncertain whether Woods and Bennett’s collaboration is limited to this week’s event or extends to future competitions. Woods, who currently lacks a permanent caddie, parted ways with Joe LaCava last year, given his limited appearances on the greens.
Woods’ history with caddies is storied, having worked with some of the most famous names in the golf industry. His early career saw success alongside Mike “Cushion” Cowan, with whom he secured seven PGA Visit titles, including the 1997 Experts. Following their split, Woods teamed up with Steve Williams, enjoying a fruitful partnership marked by 13 Major triumphs and 72 PGA Visit titles.
However, their association ended in 2012 under contentious circumstances, with Williams reportedly carrying Adam Scott’s pack during a tournament while still working for Woods. Williams later opened up about their split, highlighting a period of uncertainty and ultimately Woods’ decision to part ways.
Subsequently, Woods enlisted Joe LaCava, who remained by his side from 2012 to 2023 before their amicable separation. With Bennett now on board for the Beginning Invitational, Woods continues to adapt his team, seeking the ideal partnership to complement his game.
