Legendary golfer Tiger Woods and American brand Nike shared one of the most iconic partnerships in sport, but they decided to part ways at the beginning of 2024.
After 27 years of collaboration, Woods voiced his desire for “a brand that I’m glad for” following his exit from Nike. Their partnership saw Woods secure 15 major titles, surpassing Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 majors. The conclusion of Woods’ association with Nike left golf fans eagerly anticipating his next move.
Woods unveiled his new brand, ‘Sun Day Red’ (SDR), in a press conference in Los Angeles. The name pays homage to the red attire he wears on the final day of competitions, a tradition rooted in his mother’s belief that red was his power color due to his Capricorn zodiac sign. Woods’ affinity for the color red dates back to his junior golf days and continued through his college years at Stanford.
Partnering with TaylorMade, Woods embarked on this new venture, citing it as the perfect timing in his life. He emphasized the significance of having a brand he can take pride in. Previously, Woods had his own line with Nike, called ‘TW Collection.’
In a statement, Woods expressed his eagerness to share his insights and experiences in apparel and footwear garnered over his illustrious career. He aims to integrate these learnings into Sun Day Red, focusing on performance and comfort for athletes both on and off the course.
TaylorMade, renowned for their golf equipment, embraced the opportunity to collaborate with Woods on his new brand. TaylorMade President, David Abeles, highlighted the autonomy of Sun Day Red, stating it operates separately from TaylorMade, under the guidance of a dedicated team.
The launch of Sun Day Red signifies Woods’ continued influence in the golf industry and his commitment to providing quality products for athletes. As Woods embarks on this new chapter, his partnership with TaylorMade promises innovation and excellence in golf apparel and footwear.
