The Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, established in 1970 and renamed in 1999 in honor of Hall of Famer Walter Payton, recognizes NFL players for excellence on and off the field. Each team nominates a player making a positive impact in the community. Nominees wear a special decal, and the winner, to be announced during the NFL Honors on Feb. 8, receives a $250,000 donation for their chosen charity.
The Green Bay Packers have chosen De’Vondre Campbell as their nominee. Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy commended Campbell’s work with the De’Vondre Campbell Family Youth Foundation, empowering at-risk youth through various programs. Founded in 2019, the foundation focuses on resource distribution, scholarships, education, and mentorship. Campbell’s efforts include annual football camps, donations, and an Adopt A Family program, providing relief, education, and addressing food insecurity.
Campbell, a star linebacker for the Packers, has gone above and beyond, organizing an Adopt a Family Program that contributed $50,000 in gifts to 25 families last year. He personally delivered gifts, including appliances and a car, and even facilitated a wedding for one family. This year, the program aims to assist 35 families. Despite battling injuries, Campbell has been a defensive anchor for the Packers in 2023, showcasing dedication both on and off the field.
