The Green Bay Packers secured a crucial victory on Sunday night against the Kansas City Chiefs, marking a turning point in their season. Jordan Love’s stellar performance, with three touchdowns and zero interceptions, led the team to a 27-19 triumph, propelling them to a 6-6 record and clinching the seventh playoff seed in the NFC.
Post-triumph, the Packers undertook a series of strategic moves, one of which was confirmed today as the team parted ways with a seasoned running back.
As reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero:
“The Packers have officially inked a deal with veteran RB Kenyan Drake for the practice squad, simultaneously parting ways with RB James Robinson.”
With the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, set to clash with the Packers this Sunday, the team opted to bring back former 1,000+ yard rusher James Robinson. Unfortunately, Robinson’s return was short-lived, culminating in his release today.
Having initially joined the Packers in October, Robinson’s tenure saw him navigating between the active roster, practice squad, and free agency. This latest development might signify the end of Robinson’s stint in Green Bay, as Kenyan Drake not only took over his jersey number (32) but also occupies the same position.
At 29 years old, Drake injects valuable experience into the running back room, filling a void left by a key player. Boasting over 3,800 rushing yards and 1,600 receiving yards, his versatility brings a much-needed dimension to a running back corps that was lacking in that department. Effectively utilizing Drake in the passing game could potentially offer the Packers a strategic advantage they’ve been missing since the absence of Jones.
