Before parting ways with Nike after a 27-year partnership, Tiger Woods already harbored ambitions of launching his own apparel company in collaboration with TaylorMade.
Inspired by his iconic Sunday tournament attire, Woods branded his new venture as Sun Day Red.
Woods revealed his latest endeavor in Los Angeles last Monday, coinciding with his hosting duties and participation in the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club.
During the introduction alongside TaylorMade CEO David Abeles, Woods described their relationship as “symbiotic,” indicating a mutually beneficial partnership between endorser and endorsee. The apparel will be exclusively available on SunDayRed.com starting May 1, bypassing TaylorMade’s website and other retailers (at least for now).
Woods emphasized the opportune timing of the launch, but with his illustrious reputation, is there ever a wrong time for Tiger Woods to introduce a new brand?
Abeles announced that Sun Day Red will debut with both men’s and women’s collections, with plans to expand into youth apparel in the near future.
Anticipating more
The launch event for Sun Day Red, along with Woods’ attire at the Genesis Invitational, appears to be just a glimpse of what’s in store. And initial reactions are positive! From sleek sweaters and hoodies to a polo reminiscent of Woods’ shirt during his 1992 pro debut, Woods exuded style from head to toe.
Aside from the casual footwear showcased, Sun Day Red seems poised to introduce additional styles.
At the Genesis, Woods teased both light and dark colorways of a classic-style spiked shoe, featuring striking red soles.
Whether these red soles will become another signature hallmark of the brand remains uncertain; time will reveal their fate.
Woods provided limited details about the footwear, although he mentioned making adjustments after testing them on different terrains.
“Testing in Florida was very different than playing here on slopes and wet grass,” Woods explained. “So I added some spikes, and it’s been effective.”
Progress report
Woods emphasized that his brand prioritizes athletes’ needs while maintaining style. Sun Day Red aims to offer premium lifestyle apparel that delivers performance and comfort both on and off the course.
The launch has been met with enthusiasm, despite some curiosity about the separation of “sun” and “day.” According to the Sun Day Red website, “there is a special power in 3’s. Calling it Sun Day Red was a fun way for us to create something completely different and unexpected.”
Our team attended the Sun Day Red launch (see video below) to provide an early glimpse of Woods’ inaugural collection, and they even had the opportunity to acquire a few pieces. Watch Claire Rogers and Sean Zak (with Darren Riehl behind the camera) as they explore Woods’ new Sun Day Red gear.
