In the aftermath of Trevor Lawrence’s injury during Monday Night Football, attention within the Browns’ circles has focused on the quarterback’s status for a potential swift return in Cleveland this Sunday.
Today’s practice session has concluded, with Lawrence notably absent from the field. Addressing the media, Jaguars’ head coach Doug Pederson emphasized the team’s cautious approach, stating they don’t want Lawrence to risk further harm, and they’re committed to ensuring he’s fully capable before considering him for the upcoming game. Pederson asserted, “We’re not going to put players on the field that aren’t 100% … not at the cost of winning a football game.”
Expressing confidence in backup quarterback C.J. Beathard, Pederson indicated that Beathard could start against the Browns if Lawrence isn’t cleared to play. Beathard, who joined the Jaguars in 2021, was a third-round pick in 2017 and previously played for the San Francisco 49ers, accumulating 19 games with 12 starts.
Following Pederson’s remarks, Trevor Lawrence addressed the media, offering reassurance about his condition. Lawrence expressed gratitude for the improvement in his health, commending the team’s training staff for their efforts. “I feel a lot better, I feel better than I would have thought I’d feel,” Lawrence stated. He also acknowledged the concern surrounding the injury and thanked everyone for their thoughts and prayers, noting that he was initially worried about the impact on his leg or ankle. Despite the uncertainty, Lawrence concluded on a positive note, expressing thankfulness that the injury wasn’t more severe.
