Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes won’t die wondering about his ankle sprain as the three-time Super Bowl champ is pushing the limits in an attempt to suit up against the Houston Texans.
When Mahomes was taken out of the game against the Cleveland Browns, many thought the worst-case scenario, but Patrick detailed that the ankle has now responded well to treatment, which will be music to Chiefs fan’s ears.
But with Kansas City in such a commanding position in the AFC, Andy Reid might rest his star and get him ready for the playoffs.
But Mahomes is all gas, no brakes, as he attempts to be healthy enough to contribute against Houston.
“That’s the reason you play this game, is to push to play,” Mahomes said, speaking out on his desire to go. “So I’ll get to work at practice and try to push it to see where I can get to. But at the end of the day, I’m not going to put our team in a bad position, so if I feel like I can play and go out there and win a football game I’ll play. If I don’t feel like that’s the best-case scenario I’ll let guys like Carson play. He’s a guy that’s won in this league so it’s just about pushing it this week, seeing where I’m at and making the best decision then.”

So Mahomes will be doing his best to play against the Texans, but he won’t go out there if he isn’t 100 percent.
Carson Wentz is the Chiefs’ backup quarterback and has done some good things in the league, with both Reid and Mahomes expressing their comfort level in Wentz if he gets the nod to start.
Of course, in an ideal world, Mahomes will be under center, but there are bigger fish to fry for the Chiefs in a few weeks, so they will not want a banged-up Mahomes entering the postseason.
A big decision awaits.
