Rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito will continue to lead the New York Giants on Monday night against the Green Bay Packers, despite Tyrod Taylor’s return to practice. Head coach Brian Daboll emphasized DeVito’s earned opportunity, citing his strong performances in the last two games. The Giants, currently 4-8, are coming off a bye week following consecutive wins with DeVito at the helm.
DeVito, 25, boasts a 62.9% completion rate, throwing for 697 yards, seven touchdowns, and three interceptions in five appearances this season. Stepping in for injured starters Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor, DeVito made his debut against the Dallas Cowboys on Nov. 12, registering six touchdowns and one interception in subsequent starts against the Cowboys, New England Patriots, and Washington Commanders.
Coach Daboll praised DeVito’s improvement, noting his accurate decision-making and fan-favorite status. Despite Taylor’s return from injured reserve, where he was placed due to a rib injury on Nov. 4, DeVito retains the starting position. Taylor, 34, started three games during Jones’ absence, completing 57 of 87 passes for 579 yards and two touchdowns.
With Jones on injured reserve due to a knee injury, DeVito, a New Jersey native and Don Bosco Prep High School alum, has embraced the QB1 role, winning over fans with his performance. As Taylor returns to practice, he is expected to serve as DeVito’s backup on Monday night, assuming he remains healthy throughout the week.
